Jasinaldo Mendes
The plastic artist, Jasinaldo Mendes, was born on March 11, 1956 in the Engenho do Meio neighborhood, city of Recife.
Like every sugarcane boy, he enjoyed a simple life, but very rich in nature, popular festivals, customs, beliefs and superstitions of a people who created their own cultural language: folklore, bumba meu boi, rural maracatu and caboclinhos .
All these manifestations are part of his stage and contribute to his creative formation. Since he was little, he stood out with his drawings, being identified as a person predisposed to the visual arts. Unable to study at the School of Arts, at the time, the Lyceum of Arts and Crafts, he managed his studies as a self-taught person. In his adolescence, he gained direct contact with Amazonian nature and anthropological studies when working as a forestry agent in the state of Amazonas.
Returning to his hometown, he studied at the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco and graduated as an Agricultural Technician. Subsequently, he traveled through several states in the country acquiring a vast knowledge of Brazil's agrarian social problems.
All this life experience contributed to the formation of an original style, which moves between the cave and the modern.
