Biography
Janna Shulrufer (ז'אנה שולרופר) is an Israeli artist who creates works in different genres and techniques. She is a member of the Association of Painters and Sculptors in Israel and a member of the Artists' Community of Safed. She is working in her art-studio in Artist's Colony in Safed.
Janna Shulrufer was born in Moscow and she repatriated to Israel in 1995. Janna is autodidact, but also she studied drawing and art history at the State Pedagogical University in Moscow and she studied the etching technique in the Artists' House in Tel Aviv. Her artworks are displayed at the Safed General Exhibition, at private collections of the United States, Israel, Canada, France, Spain, Italy, England, Denmark, Germany, Russia, South Korea, China ...
ז'אנה שולרופר, ציירת רב תחומית, חברה באגודת הציירים והפסלים בישראל וחברה בקהילת האמנים של צפת. ז'אנה נולדה במוסקבה והכשרה שם גם כן. היא למדה ציור ותולדות האמנות באוניברסיטה הפדגוגית הממלכתית במוסקבה, והיא למדה טכניקת התחריט (נקודה יבשה) בבית האמנים בתל אביב. יצירותיה מוצגות בתערוכה הכללית בצפת, בסטודיו שלה קרית האמנים בצפת, באוספים פרטיים בארה"ב, ישראל, קנדה, צרפת, ספרד, איטליה, אנגליה, דנמרק, גרמניה, רוסיה, דרום קוריאה, סין ועוד

"Naive" art is a special category that defies usual concepts of what is good and not and establishes criteria of its own. We all start as naive artists and usually develop away from that status. But some artists choose to apply their own exceptional aptitudes in developing their own vision and this means of expression.
Sometimes highly skilled, trained artists recognize the potential for this genre and struggle to overcome their training and its prejudices to produce work that has an aesthetic beauty or dynamic more akin to folk art than the Academy Style. Once virtually ignored, over the last century this kind of work has achieved its rightful recognition, "rightful" because there are things that can be expressed this way that cannot be expressed in arts based on design, illusion or nonrepresentational processes.
Shulrufer's work appears to fit one of these approaches and she has produced many works that I found worthy of special praise. This image was only one of many that particularly caught my eye. Though it is not the "purest" example of Naive Art, I selected it for praise as a suggestion of the depth of the artist's abilities, a sort of moderation between Surrealism and naive Art that stands as an outstanding work in either. I recommend taking the time to study her achievements in greater depth and that collectors, decorators and dealers give Shulrufer's work your consideration.

j'aime beaucoup vos paysage, ils sont trés lumineux...
A première vue, une jolie peinture très "parfaite" avec dans un décors élégant une belle femme dans l'exacte position qui mêne à un état de conscience (ou de non-conscience) supérieur... Puis on remarque le long sillon vertical qui coupe la femme en son milieu, comme un fruit bien mûr qui semble être sur le point de s'ouvrir en deux parties égales... Inquiétant, non, les effets de la méditation ! Je dis ça, mais je n'ai peut-être rien compris ! Merci beaucoup pour ce dessin ! Alexandre.
