Apart from its exceptional thickness, the fiber paper is composed of an alpha-cellulose base without acid and it is covered with barium sulphate, and a microporous layer absorption enhancing pigments during printing. The reflection was quite difficult to capture in watercolour - it took me a lot of experimenting to get it right, but here I think the results are very pleasing. The variety of different autumnal colours drew me to this image (the picture is based on a photograph by Colin Baxter). The reflection was quite difficult to capture in watercolour - it took me a lot of experimenting to get it right, but here I think the results are very pleasing. The stormy sky adds to the dramatic atmosphere. Painted on ARCHES, 300g, rough watercolour paper (which has a textured surface finish) with Winsor and Newton paints. Sold without mat/mount or frame. Painted to the edge of the paper. If you want the painting to really stand out then paying a professional framer will give you best results. But if you look in your art supplies shop you can find the materials to create your own mount and frame.

Born and brought up amid the more muted tones of London, I now live in Vence in the south of France, enjoying its famously vivid light. I am a watercolourist inspired by travel and the glories of the natural world. My work is figurative and depends on careful observation and choice of colours. In watercolour I am mostly self-taught, but my style developed through the tuition I received at school over seven years. I won a scholarship to study art at Charterhouse school where I learnt to draw architecture and paint landscapes, both of which feature in my work today. My works are owned by private collectors in the USA and Europe.
