Born 1984

Jacob Kassay (born 1984 in Lewiston, New York) is a post-conceptual artist renowned for his work in painting, filmmaking, and sculpture. His art is influenced by minimalist music and composition, using structural approaches to explore the biological mechanisms of sight and spatial recognition. Kassay lives and works in New York City and is represented by 303 Gallery.

Kassay grew up in Lewiston, New York, and studied photography at the State University of New York at Buffalo, where he earned his BFA. During his time at university, he was influenced by professors Sylvie Belanger and Steve Kurtz, who introduced him to semiotics, structuralism, and post-structuralism. Along with his peers, Kassay co-founded Kitchen Distribution, a music and art space that hosted performances and Kassay’s first solo exhibition.

After relocating to New York City, Kassay gained early recognition through group exhibitions such as Cinema Zero: Bendover/Hangover at White Flag Projects and Neo-Integrity at Derek Eller Gallery. His work quickly caught the attention of artists and curators like Ann Craven, Maurizio Cattelan, Olivier Mosset, and Bob Nickas.
