Jean Louis Jabalé a vécu dans plusieurs pays d'Europe avant de s'installer un peu plus longuement (quoique sans doute pas définitivement) à Montpellier. Ses origines très diverses (sa grand-mère était une princesse grecque, son grand-père un avocat libanais et son autre grand-mère une violoniste auvergnate) ont fait de lui un perpétuel voyageur.
Il a été instituteur pendant une vingtaine d'années. Il continue aujourd'hui de travailler pour l'éducation nationale, mais sur un poste administratif.
Il peint des aquarelles et il dessine depuis près de trente ans. Ce n'est qu'il y a trois ans qu'il est venu à l'art aborigène, presque par hasard.
Après avoir terminé sa première toile avec cette technique particulière du "dot-painting", il était persuadé de ne jamais vouloir en peindre une autre de la même façon! Il a pourtant recommencé dès la semaine suivante et ne s'est pratiquement pas arrêté depuis.
L'arrangement méticuleux de ces milliers de pointillés est, selon lui, un bon support à la méditation.
Son style a évolué, et il est rapidement passé de la simple imitation des tableaux traditionnels à des œuvres beaucoup plus personnelles, tout en gardant la technique et la symbolique qui sont propres aux aborigènes d'Australie.
