Additional Information: The songye migrated from the shaba area which is now days southern Democratic Republic of Congo. The songye had a unique sculptural style of intense dynamism and vitality. There sculptural works are still used by secret societies while holding different ceremonies.
This wonderful Songye piece consists of a joined carved wooden figures with two heads, one body and two legs. The belly holds a magical and belt fulled with magical substances also. The piece is carved in a classic Songye style. The charge in band and in abdomen indicate magical potency. Figures such as this are known as nkishi and the magical charges known as bishimba that would give the figure its magical powers.

Peter isuge lugoloire is a contemporary artisan who been in the art field for more than 30 years. He is a self motivated man who loves creativity as well as contemporary expression. Peter has taught young artists how to create and become good sculptors and this has changed lives of very many youth positively.

Peter opened up an art showroom and studio in jinja (P.I.L HANDICRAFTS) which has been promoting more african local artists and this has been rendering services since 2002 with intentions of promoting culture in diversity.
