Irena Luse
Irena Luse is a contemporary Latvian artist known for her work in figurative compositions, portraits, and landscapes. She earned her degree in painting from the Art Academy of Latvia in 1972 and later acquired a Master of Arts degree in 1997. Since 1972, Luse has been a dedicated educator at the Latvian Art Academy, progressing from assistant to lecturer, and becoming an Assistant Professor in the Painting Department in 2000.
A member of the Artist's Union of Latvia since 1976, Luse has participated in exhibitions across Latvia, Lithuania, the UK, Germany, Italy, Turkey, Holland, and Finland, with solo exhibitions in Riga in 1994, 1997, and 1999. In 2011, she also became a member of the Spanish International Pastel Artists' Association.
Luse’s landscapes are deeply personal, reflecting her experiences in nature and characterized by a sense of intimate peace, dreaminess, and the pervasive presence of light. Her work invites viewers to engage with the tranquility and ethereal qualities of her compositions, whether through pastel or black-and-white drawings that capture the depth of her emotions.
