In The Sacred Supper, Igor Galan constructs a moving and original vision of collective defiance and spiritual communion, drawing inspiration from both religious iconography and Ukrainian folklore. The 70x80 cm oil painting places the viewer in an underground chamber where a group of Carpathian mountain rebels – the opryshky – gather around a low table. In the center, a Christ-like figure holds bread in one hand, while light pours from above like a divine interruption. Weapons rest on walls and shoulders, suggesting that this sacred gathering is also one of political resistance.

Galan’s expressive realism, rich use of tone, and layered symbolism create a work that is both painterly and profound. This is a reinterpretation that respects tradition while boldly reshaping it to speak to national history and collective memory. Every detail – from the emotional expressiveness of each face to the spiritual light cascading down – is carefully considered and deeply felt.

This piece has already been sold, but Igor Galan is available for commissions in a similar narrative style. A unique choice for collectors of neo-renaissance allegory, cultural storytelling, and bold historical reinterpretation.
