MY PROCESS:
Oil painting: This artwork begins as a pre-primed stretched canvas which I lightly stain in a thin layer of acrylic paint. A thin layer of paint diluted with artist mineral spirits is applied to block in the structure and shapes Subsequent layers are used to build up form and clarify the final hue and saturation levels. The painting goes through a few layering and drying stages until the desired result is obtained. The principle of fat over lean is of utmost importance and so my paintings when done in this particular style is a labor of love. The final painting is signed, varnished and shipped.

Painting with acrylics can be both technically easier and faster in my opinion. However , I love both the freedom and challenge that oil presents . Once can create beautiful effects with glazing and layering can be achieved with oils but one is constantly challenged to not over blend.

Oil paintings require a clear strategy to master and a creative flair is essential to create something truly unique . Mistakes are difficult to correct and particular edges can be unforgiving but this is what makes the medium so enjoyable as each painting presents a unique challenge and a testament to my persistent nature to put something beautiful out into the world to overshadow the chaos.

Well if you were fortunate enough to drive through the garden route and see the forests of the Knysna forest and the lagoon you would know that it is breathtakingly beautiful . There are feral cats , cheetahs and beautiful fallow deer and even elusive elephants .
