Giuseppe Fortunato was born in Notaresco (Te) on November 5, 1956.
His artistic experience developed from a very young age: he exhibited in his first solo exhibition at the age of only 27; he has been known since the 1980s for his participation in the most important art exhibitions in the country and also abroad. His artistic production was certainly contaminated in the early days by metaphysical painting and later by elements of surrealism; in the 1980s an important stage in his growth comes from the encounter and association with the Master of the new Italian figuration Remo Brindisi from whom he will perceive that artistic lymph that will be an incessant impulse, even if he does not follow his pictorial styles. At the end of the 1980s he will give life, together with other artists from Abruzzo, to the Images movement. His obsessive research in the care of the technique is expressed, sometimes eclipsing the thematic, with the arrival of a completely personal language not found in time: such is the Assempaforismo (apodictic emendative pictorial fortunate assembly). The interested critics closely follow this path that even today is flourishing and in constant innovation. "I would never paint a vase of flowers", thus answered the Master Fortunato, despite having started as a boy with the figurative, to the interviewer on duty who wondered about the meaning of the Master's works; These few words reveal the essence of Giuseppe Fortunato’s work, namely the desire to focus on the search for emotions that are never banal or superficial in the viewer. Not yet thirty, in 1985, Fortunato exhibited in the prestigious Salle Roesselmann au Koifhus in Colmar, France; three years later, in 1988, at the Expo Arte in Bari, the artist took away media visibility from the works of infamous artists such as Fontana, Schifano, Cucchi: in his performance, the artist had himself crucified tied to a cross and remained there for hours. This episode was the first news item on the pages of newspapers and in the openings of TV reports. In a neo-Renaissance vein, throughout the 1990s, the artist opened up to multidisciplinarity, deepening the pictorial discourse together with sculpture, performances, installations, digital art and video art. This can always be traced back to conceptual art that he will never abandon, as the critic Prof. Armando Ginesi recalled, referring to the catalytic concept of expressive reality. An important and denotable legacy in Fortunato's experience is certainly brought by Pop Art, definable in reference to the poetic nature of the objects that often return in the various cycles of the Master. In the early 90s the "Primavere" are the materialization of his continuous analysis and spasmodic research, resulting in an orderly and schematic multicolored expression, symmetrical but enchanted and fairy-tale-like. The dream, as the critic Occhipinti apostrophized, will remain a primary element even if under the guise of a deliberately distorted representation of his era. In 1995 Giuseppe Fortunato moved with his wife and two children to the Marche and for a decade he was absorbed in his parallel activity as an entrepreneur and manager in sports. In these years he devoted himself to stylistic research, to new forms of visual communication, in which the graphic organization of heterogeneous elements and materials is synthesized in the specificity of the figurative line with the "innate physicality of the matter" as described by the critic Francesco Gialluca. Between the end of the 90s and the mid 2000s he devotedly deepened the use of digital art, combining the past stylistic features of Pop Art with the present context of daily technological evolution and fragmentation of those last frontiers of global communication. At the same time, what has been identified with the "Colate" cycle since 2006 began. A first step towards the internationalist proposition of this activity was the "Colate Tijuana" event directed by Marcell Bolyevich at the Sede Cultural Pasaje Rodriguez in Baja California in Mexico. From 2008 to today, the exhibitions have been varied throughout the country, thanks also to the fruitful collaboration with Prof. Armando Ginesi, one of the most influential art critics, Honorary Consul of the Russian Federation, awarded the Knighthood of the Grand Cross of the Italian Republic and Grand Officer of the Order of Saint Agatha. Among the various events, Ginesi has curated the exhibition Metempsicosi by Giuseppe Fortunato, in which he compared the greatness of the sixteenth-century painter Lorenzo Lotto and his production. In 2008, the artist donated the sculpture “After the Miracle” to the Municipality of Cingoli for the Parco delle Pietre Vive, the work consists of a human-sized mannequin in Carrara marble dust, on a 5-meter-high steel chair. He created for the Cupramontana Museum “A gift in loan”, a work depicting a 1.5 meter tall wine glass on a bed of 200 kg of clay, with Verdicchio-colored resin flowing from the glass. Over the years, he has had frequent relationships with important critics such as Sgarbi, Dorfles and the aforementioned Ginesi. The artist has had a long and interesting correspondence with Vittorio Sgarbi dating back to the 90s. In 2013, the Fortunato Foundation was born, which is primarily committed to the promotion, archiving and distribution of the artistic production of Maestro Fortunato, also ranging in cultural activities that bring together different attitudes and cultures. To this end, the direction of the aforementioned is to create art within art, involving different artistic and cultural expressions within the events for Giuseppe Fortunato: music through a jazz concert for example, fashion with a fashion show in an environment designed and created by the artist, the theater with a performance in the rooms adjacent to the exhibition, the presentation of a book; then expand the offer to embrace an audience made up of passionate and culturally educated people from different backgrounds but similar in sensitivity for the moment of artistic expression. The main objective of the Foundation is the material investment in the artist's production, from the organization of events, exhibitions, fairs, installations, performances, digital communication. The Foundation participated in Arte Pordenone in May 2013 with a personal exhibition related to the "Colate" by Maestro Fortunato. The main event for the year 2013 took place in December with "Colori e Sorrisi" at the Galleria Galeotti in Macerata, an exhibition of the Colate by Giuseppe Fortunato in synergy with the disabled children of the Anffas of Macerata, it was an event with charitable purposes, sponsored by the Municipality of Macerata, the Province of Macerata, the Marche Region, Fondazione Carima, with the attention of the Diocese of Macerata, the criticism of Prof. Armando Ginesi and the presence of the testimonial the actor Cesare Bocci. “The colors are those of art that with its power manages to bring out the beauty that is in each of us, manages to excite, to touch the deep essence of things. Art is generosity, it is giving others an intimate part of oneself. The smiles are those of the kids involved who found themselves living a unique, magical, exciting experience. They were able to give vent to their own creativity, to their own world, to their own being. I thank Maestro Fortunato who has put his art, his experience, his sensitivity at the service of this noble cause” was the greeting from the Mayor of Macerata Romano Carancini. In 2014, the Colate by Giuseppe Fortunato were very successful across the Channel: several lots of works were awarded at auctions in London starting in July. Specifically, Chiswick Auctions and Highroad Auctions sold paintings and also sculptures by the artist from Abruzzo. In the meantime, Fortunato’s artistic activity has also reached Germany, in Berlin where the collaboration with Auctionata began. In December of the same year, Fortunato’s personal exhibition was inaugurated in Ancona in Piazza Plebiscito, also on this occasion there was an opening to the social, to the world of non-profit organizations, with a series of subjects dedicated to the beauties of the Doric city. The exhibition opened with an in-depth presentation on the history of art by Consul Prof. Armando Ginesi and with the precious intervention of Cav. Renato Barchiesi. 2014 also marked the collaboration between the artist and Emanuela Orler who will produce a series of television programs focused on Fortunato’s artistic activity. At the same time, Giuseppe Fortunato’s works were presented in the major exhibition events thanks to the synergy created with Domenico Di Ottavio of the historic Mirò Art Gallery in Teramo. The artist is invited to the presentation ceremony of the 50th edition of the Mondadori Modern and Contemporary Art Catalogue published by Urbano Cairo, held in the Palazzo Medici Riccardi in Florence. Fortunato has been selected by the CAM critical committee, considered the bible of art, since 1986.
2015 opens with the artist's return to his homeland, in Teramo, in Abruzzo, his homeland: an event organized by Aldo Quinzi with the Fortunato Foundation at the Council Hall of the Municipality of Sant'Egidio alla Vibrata, presented by the critic Diego Della Valle, the Mayor Rando Angelini and the Culture delegate Annunzio Amatucci. During this period, other intense relationships were born with the Galleria Micati in Trapani.
Between 2015 and 2016, fifteen works by Giuseppe Fortunato were auctioned in Italy and Germany. In 2016 Fortunato joined the Movimento Maric of the promoter Vincenzo Vavuso, with the aim of leaving a tangible mark for the community, such as the creation of artistic-cultural centers, the diffusion and promotion of Culture and Art. The first exhibition took place at the Mediateca "Marte" in Cava de' Tirreni (Sa) in October 2016; subsequently “Colors for the earthquake” at the “Genovesi” Hall of the Chamber of Commerce of Salerno in December 2016. In 2017 “Disarming Ignorance" at Castel Dell'Ovo, Naples, from 7 to 20 March.

Giuseppe Fortunato, born on November 5, 1956, in Notaresco, Italy, is a renowned contemporary artist whose career began early. At 27, he held his first solo exhibition, marking the start of his active presence in the Italian and international art scenes. Throughout the 1980s, Fortunato gained recognition for his participation in significant art exhibitions, both in Italy and abroad.
His work initially drew inspiration from metaphysical painting and later incorporated surrealist elements. A key turning point in his career came in the 1980s when he met Remo Brindisi, a prominent figure in the new Italian figuration movement. This encounter provided a crucial influence, fueling Fortunato's artistic drive while allowing him to develop a unique style, distinct from traditional figurative approaches.
In the late 1980s, Fortunato became a leading figure in the Images movement alongside other Abruzzese artists. His work has consistently explored conceptual art, delving into the relationships between materials, spaces, and colors. This conceptual foundation remained a constant in his evolving style.
In 2013, he founded the Fortunato Foundation, dedicated to promoting, archiving, and sharing his artistic legacy. The Foundation also engages in cultural activities, fostering diverse artistic perspectives. One notable exhibition by the Foundation occurred at Arte Pordenone in 2013, showcasing Fortunato's "Colate" series, featuring vibrant glazes on expansive surfaces.
Fortunato’s artistic career has been marked by his exploration of deep and non-superficial emotions. He achieved early success in Italy and expanded his reach to the United Kingdom in 2014 and Germany. His significance in the art world is affirmed by his inclusion in CAM's Critical Committee, a respected reference in the field since 1986.
As a painter, sculptor, and designer, Fortunato’s work has evolved towards a surreal aesthetic, ultimately arriving at his signature "Colate" style—colorful, fluid glazes applied to large flat surfaces.
