Recuperado, Sebastião se apresenta ao imperador Diocleciano, dando testemunhos de sua fé em Cristo; este, estarrecido ao ver em sua presença aquele que deveria estar morto, ordena o espancamento até a morte. Não tendo morrido com o espancamento é transpassado por uma lança, cerca de 286 d. C. ...
SEBASTIAN, considered defender of the Church, was born in Narbonne, about 256 AD, he joined the army and because of his capacity, became estimated by the emperors Diocletian and Maximian, ignoring that he was a Christian, appointed him Capitain of the Praetorian Guard.
Diocletian, feeling betrayed by his trusted soldier, a time when Christians were persecuted, sentenced him to death. They took him to an open field and the archers of Mauritania shot him; thinking he was dead threw him to the river. He was found and rescued by (Saint) Irene who nursed his wounds.

O MAAS conserva uma das mais importantes coleções de arte sacra brasileira, com mais de 4.300 peças, sendo a maioria do período barroco, incluindo objetos religiosos que vieram para o Brasil com a vinda de D. João VI.
The work, collection of MAAS – Archidiocesan Museum of Sacred Art, is reinterpretation of San Sebastiano, particolare del Polittico della Misericordia (1445, Museo Civico, Sansepolcro), the painter and mathematician Piero della Francesca, who belonged to the Quattrocento, the second stage of motion Italian Renaissance. The MAAS preserves one of the most important collections of religious art in Brazil, with more than 4.300 pieces, most from the baroque period, including religious objects that came to Brazil with the arrival of D. John VI.
