À l’instar d’un robert Doisneau, Willy Ronis ou Jacques-Henri Lartigue, Georges Martin, né le 3 octobre 1906 à Paris, fût durant plus de 35 ans, l’un des photographes les plus prolifiques, pour capter l’instant, les odeurs, les impressions et les mille petites choses de la vie. Contemporain d’une époque foisonnante, d’avancées techniques et artistiques durant les années 30, il fût membre de la confédération française de la photographie. Après l’école Boulle, il collabore avec Printz et Leleu. Compagnon de route des frères Prévert, Paul Grimault, Jacques Fourastié…, il posséda durant de nombreuses années son propre studio, situé place Beauvau où le tout Paris artistique se rendait régulièrement. Outre les nombreux clichés d’un Paris urbain aujourd’hui disparu, on lui doit un grand nombre de reportages pour le cinéma et la publicité (longue collaboration avec l’ « Agence FOG ») pour laquelle il réalisa plusieurs affiches de cinéma dont celle de Louis Malle, « Les amants » où l’image de deux mains qui se tenaient sur un drap froissé, fit en son temps un mini scandale. Passionné de pêche, Georges Martin aimait dès qu’il en avait le temps retrouver son cher moulin de Griselles dans le Loiret où en compagnie de son épouse, Claude Saint Cyr, célèbre modiste des années 40 et de sa fille. Décédé le 13 juillet 1962, il a laissé un patrimoine de plus de 20 000 clichés dont certains sont archivés et distribués par l’« Agence Gamma-Rapho ».
