En l'an 1008, la peste ravageait le Valenciennois. Selon les chroniques, les habitants, terrorisés, s'en remirent aux mains divines et prièrent la Vierge Marie de leur venir en aide. Le dernier jour d'août, le moine ermite appelé Bertholin fut visité par la Vierge Marie qui lui demanda de regrouper les habitants pour prier près de l'église qui lui était consacrée. Après sept jours, Notre-Dame apparut, accompagnée de nombreux anges, portant un cordon écarlate. Elle demanda aux anges d'entourer la ville et ses faubourgs de ce cordon, puis tous disparurent lorsque ce fut fait. Elle réapparut aussitôt au moine Bertholin et lui demanda d'organiser dès le lendemain, et chaque année, une procession le long du tracé du cordon. La contagion cessa et tous les malades furent guéris. Dès l'année suivante, le pèlerinage fut mis en place. Il est possible que la peste n'ait jamais menacé la ville de Valenciennes, car en latin peste signifie fléau, peut-être qu'une autre maladie est entrée dans la légende en prenant le nom de peste.

-En peintres j'aime les surréalistes, Max Ernst surtout, la période de la pré-Renaissance même si ça se voit pas de trop dans ce que je fais. Enfin j'aime peindre d'après photo, surtout celles des autres.
Mes réalisations récentes sont à l'aquarelle, elles peuvent être à l'acrylique si vous le souhaitez, j'ai avant tout un bon coup de crayon et l'esprit d'un ch'ti.
Enseigne l'aquarelle à la médiathèque d'Escautpont, dans diverses associations locales ainsi qu'aux particuliers.
