Flavien Couche, a contemporary French painter, was born in Paris in 1981. From a tender age, his passion for drawing burgeoned, fueled by a profound fascination for comics that he voraciously consumed. However, it was in 1999, upon visiting the Fauvism exhibition at the Grand Palais in Paris, that Couche experienced a transformative awakening to the world of color and painting. This revelation ignited a fervent determination within him – he would become a painter.

Undertaking post-Baccalaureate studies in visual communication, Couche honed his artistic technique. Yet, feeling uninspired by his environment, he redirected his academic pursuits towards a more targeted course, ultimately earning a degree in Fine Arts in 2005.

Couche's artistic journey gained momentum as he began exhibiting at various contemporary art fairs in Paris and its surrounding regions. The positive reception of his work affirmed his artistic choices and propelled him forward. In 2014, Couche embarked on a new chapter, settling in Reunion Island, where he explored a brighter and more raw color palette, deeply influenced by his surroundings. After two transformative years, he returned to the mainland with a fervent desire to immerse himself in the vibrant landscapes of the South.

Currently residing and working in Perpignan, a city characterized by its myriad colors nestled between the sea and mountains, Couche's art straddles the realms of figurative and abstract expressionism. His work is driven by a profound desire to materialize the imperceptible, to unveil the essence of the unseen.

Inspired by surrealism and German expressionism, Couche employs color as a potent tool to transcend emotion and sensualize forms. His paintings, characterized by refined and entangled forms, evoke a gentle explosion for the observer's eye – a visual "big bang" that captivates and intrigues.

While Couche predominantly works with acrylic for its immediacy, he also delves into Indian ink, a nod to his enduring passion for comics. Deeply committed to his aesthetic journey, Couche continues to evolve as an explorer of his own singularity, endeavoring to capture and convey the essence of his "sur-reality" to the world.
