Biography
Felipe Achondo is a contemporary Chilean painter. The search for painting, experimentation, and recognition of material behavior when working with a canvas are how the artist describes his work. His primary subject matter is the process of painting itself, and it is through this act that he is able to convey the various scenes that he depicts.
Oil provides him the flexibility to work with numerous layers and transparencies, and because of his relentless persistence, many casualties or "errors" are left behind. For the artist, these eventualities are what give each painting life. He has developed his ability to manage the behavior of the materials through time, yet each piece always has a certain liveliness, giving the finished product a freshness and looseness that appeals to the viewer even though the image being exhibited is somewhat unsettling.
