Né à Montpellier le 12 Avril 1943, Jean Claude ESPINASSE est originaire de Puéchabon. Son enfance passée dans un paysage aux senteurs de garrigues, baigné de lumière, ont éveillé très tôt chez lui ce goût des formes et des couleurs, c’est ainsi qu’il à dessiner puis à peindre. Après des études au collège technique « Michelet » il incite ses parents à l’inscrire à l’école des Beaux Arts de Montpellier ou sous la direction de Camille DESCOSSY et de Georges DEZEUZE il va travailler le dessin tout en se réservant pour peindre à l’extérieur de l’école, car en tant que coloriste l’influence dominante à ce moment là ne lui convenait guère. Obligé de cesser prématurément ses études, il apprend la peinture en lettres tout en continuant les cours du soir en Architecture, après plusieurs emplois dans le dessin industriel, la publicité, il devient imprimeur- sérigraphe. Depuis plusieurs années il enseigne la peinture et le dessin, il donne également des conférences car dit il, qui mieux qu’un peintre peut parler de la peinture? Amoureux de la nature, il s’est retiré dans son village natal ou il vit et continue son travail de recherche, peindre étant pour lui une expérience sans fin.
