He was born in Bolu in 1959. He completed his primary, secondary and high school education in Izmir. He entered the Military Academy in 1977. He took a painting course at the military school in 1980 and participated in a group exhibition at the end of the course. He continued his painting studies and took painting courses from Iranian painter Yakup Hüseyinzade and original printing techniques courses from Professor H. Müjde Ayan at the Marmara University Department of Painting Education between 2010 and 2013.

        Erol Yıldırım's arts address the social issues and the inner sophistication (experiences, dreams, desires, fears, emotions, consumption and struggle for life) of individuals by symbolizing them with figurative abstractions.

He uses original techniques (imitation gold, silver & copper leaf and powders) in his works, adds different dimensions to his oil paintings, highlights the symbols and leaves the interpretation to the viewer of the work. The artist opened his first personal painting exhibition in 1995 at the Kadıköy Bahariye Akbank Exhibition Hall. His works were exhibited in 10 solo exhibitions, 46 mixed exhibitions and 5 "Living Soldier Painters" exhibitions in many cities. He participated in 4 mixed exhibitions (Tresart Gallery Quebec / Canada, Sigvardson Gallery Rodby / Denmark, Guangzhou / China and Ostrow / Welkopolski, Largo Art Gallery Varna/Bulgaria), 3 Biennials (2014 XV. Exlibris Biennial Miata Museum Ostrow / Wielkopolski-Poland, 2014 3. Guangzhou International Exlibris and Mini Print Biennial Guangzhou / China, Izmir Biennial Izmir / Turkey).
