Ermanno Barovero, born in Turin in 1956, is an accomplished Italian artist and educator known for his unique approach to engraving and contemporary art. After graduating from high school in 1974, Barovero pursued formal training at the Albertina Academy of Fine Arts in Turin, where he completed his studies in 1978 and now teaches Engraving Techniques.
Barovero began exhibiting his work in 1975, and his early career was marked by significant recognition. In 1978, he received the prestigious "Giacomo Grosso and Felice Casorati" award from the Cassa di Risparmio di Torino, as well as the Virgilio d'Argento at the "Lubiam" Award in Sabbianeta. His talent continued to shine through when he was awarded a prize at the Competition of Figurative Plastic Arts for the Civic Gallery of Monza in 1984.
In 1994, Barovero was invited to participate in the International Triennial of Graphics in Krakow, further establishing his reputation in the art world. Two years later, the Galleria Civica d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea in Turin acquired his notable bas-relief titled Pesci, che di ferita vivite il mare, created in 1986. This acquisition showcased his innovative use of painted sheet metal and marked his significant presence in contemporary art exhibitions.
In 1997, Barovero exhibited at the Troisième Biennale d'Art Contemporain in Lyon, where his work received attention for its depth and complexity. Critic Nico Orengo described Barovero's art as embodying "deceiving roses" that reflect both beauty and pain, evoking themes of existence and the struggle of creation.
In 2003, Barovero presented a solo exhibition titled "The Fifth Season" at the Prati Gallery in Palermo, which was well-received and highlighted his evolving artistic vision. Through his work, Barovero continues to explore the interplay of emotion, nature, and existence, leaving a lasting impact on the contemporary art scene.
