The figure that appears here is inspired by the seated scribe, and like many Egyptian sculptures, his skull is bare. But for a man, this nudity of the skull is not associated with slavery, it refers rather to the priesthood or the novitiate. This man is young, he is slightly smiling and seems carried by a benevolence, a concern for others. Is he an atheist or a believer, what are his hopes? It certainly does not matter and everyone can recognize themselves in this momentum of thought, regardless of their philosophy or religion. As Pierre Hadot reminds us in “Le voile d’Isis”… “We contemplate the same stars, the sky is common to us, the same world envelops us. What does the way of wisdom in which each seeks the truth matter? There is no one way to reach such a great mystery.
