To me, this is about persistence and focusing on a goal... no matter what happens or stands in your way. In his struggle to create himself, this ancient relic remains unfazed in his task well after spontaneous internal combustion has begun. In my work as a mason, and as an artist, I often find myself so focused that I am oblivious to basic human needs for significant periods of time. I served as the model for this piece. I looked quite ridiculous sitting against the wall, in my underwear, with simulated body parts (cut off sections of sweat pants stuffed with cotton) strewn about the room. I am actually pulling on a needle and thread, but not threaded through my actual leg :)

Please check out my new website for my most recent work, info about my artistic process, my blog, and more!

Recently, I began experimenting with acrylics. I have no formal training as an artist. I admire the works of Dali, Max Ernst, Dorothea Tanning, Giorgio De Chirico, and Rene Magritte, among others.
Usually, I paint it first; then think about what it all means to me. I think my current fascination with creation and re-birth is somehow connected to an increasing awareness of my own mortality. African masks interest me, and their beautiful/grotesque features often appear in my paintings.
