Richmond PhotoImpressions: Changing Public Spaces Into Private Places
Moving beyond the casual passerby response to the public facade, works by Susan Lamson demand an intimate response to her subject matter.

Intense angles, unusual perspective, and an arresting use of color and light lend a completely new interpretation to a wide variety of Richmond landmarks including Shockoe Bottom, Churchill, Hollywood Cemetery, the Fan, Carytown, Maymont, and the Boulevard. Rural scenes reflect a more peaceful side of Richmond's surrounding areas.

Susan received her BFA and her MAE from VCU's School of the Arts. Her PhotoImpressions, which she describes as photographs with a "painterly attitude" are a fairly recent venture for this Richmond born artist, but they have quickly become popular with her patrons well beyond the Richmond area.

All work is available for sale and easy shipping, in a wide variety of sizes and formats, including canvas.

Recent Shows/Exhibits

Susan is a resident artist at the "Visual Art Studio", where her work is featured throughout the gallery. The second floor of the law offices of Thompson and McMullen in the heart of Richmond's Historic Shocko Slip is an ongoing exhibit with large prints of Susan's interpretations of some of the area's most famous historic landmarks. Other galleries and previous exhibitions include Jackson Ward's "Dose", Henrico Doctor's Hospital, and the galleries at the Richmond Public Libray, "The Richmond Pottery" as well as several shops in historic Shockoe Slip, including the Omni's "Simply Richmond". Her work is a familiar decoration as it has quickly begun to fill the walls of popular Richmond restaurants, banks, hospitals, lawyers offices, and even the office of the Mayor.
Inspiration

As an artist and art educator, Susan knows that the most powerful images are created when the subject matter is closely related to the life of the creator. It is Susan's intent to discover the interests and passions of her commisions, in order to create a style that is uniquely personal.
Quote

To create meaningful art, one must have a passion for her subject .
