Vladimir Prodanovich
Born in Yugoslavia, Vladimir Prodanovich started exhibiting his paintings at the very early age of 7. He won third place at the local art show and small town recognition.
As long as I can remember I was painting. People and teachers were saying that I was good in it and and painting became my way of getting attention. I would paint anything. My favorite was painting large murals on the sidewalks and going to art competitions between cities and schools. My first art teacher would give me lots of chocolate before competition to bust up my creativity.
By the age of 14 I learned house painting and car painting .At about that time I was introduced to my art teacher, Pavle Nick, and worked about 10 years in his studio.
He was self taught painter and actor. He is still today a famous and productive painter in Yugoslavia. Having knowledge of car painting and house painting gave me the freedom in experimenting in broad variety of mediums. Painting is the only thing that really works for me. When I have problem I paint my way out of it.
In 1983, Prodanovich immigrated to the USA and at first settled in Philadelphia. There he exhibited his paintings at gallery Brera on South street . He also worked as billboard painter for The Theater Center Of Philadelphia
Coming to Philadelphia in 1983. I was impressed with graffiti art. It was new to me and was very powerful. Graffiti art was all over the town, especially in the poor
neighbohords. I would spend months walking through the getto , admiring large graffiti paintings on the biuldings. My paintings from the time spent in Philadelphia are mostly graffiti influenced.
In 1986, Prodanovich moved to California and settled in Laguna Beach. He exhibited in many local galleries including,Galery 224 , Marion Mayer Contemporary Art, Denise Roberge Gallery in Palm Desert and Soho Gallery LA in Studio City
I always liked different styles of painting: from iconography , realism , murals , modernism and abstraction. I was always watching with excitement to see my next work.
I did not find image that will unite all my paintings under one appearance. The freedom of doing my art and not belonging to any particular style is a reflection of my fear that if I find that style, life would be over. My constant search in the world of art is like searching throughout endless rooms in the castle of life.
Prodanovich has large following in the USA and Europe. His paintings and sculptures are in the numerous private and corporate collections.
