Grant Fraser MacIver (1960 -2019)

Fraser MacIver was a Painter/Printmaker/Writer. Working in an off grid Home and Garden based Antique Showman's Wagon on the southwest coast of Scotland since 1997. Born in Montreal Canada and educated at McGill University, Banff School of Fine Arts and Rhode Island School of Design, he produced art since 1976. His works are held in public and private collections all over the globe, including the City of Edinburgh public collection, Yale University Framac Archive, Government House Victoria B.C. and the Alcan collection of the Aluminum corporation of Canada, Montreal, Quebec. His two dimensional works on paper, canvas and wood are firmly based in figurative and architectural draughtsmanship; though he also combined lyrical abstraction and expressionism in some of his diverse range of artistic expression. One of his principal themes was the transformative interplay between artifice and the natural/organic world surrounding global humanities. He was a 'thinking person's artist', who delighted in taking an eclectic approach to picture making, theme and composition. He worked extensively with the figurative 'Nude'- having run a popular life drawing class in the rural community of mid Argyll since 1999. Writing both poetry and prose was another vein of his oeuvre and he cultivated text based and graphic imagery in visual/verbal narrative threads in a variety of forms.
