Paola Greco was born in Catania (Sicily). Her story begins with the theater. For fourteen years she directed the Teatro Club of Catania, a recognized center of theatrical creation and innovation, founded in 1965 by her father Nando Greco. After closing the Teatro Club (2008), she moved to Paris where she continued her work as a director, author, teacher and acting coach for theater and cinema.During these Parisian years, stimulated by the context and perhaps also by the distance, something changes, and a new personal journey of artistic expression begins: after the theater, she feels the need to experiment with a new and equally powerful expressive language, that of Painting."If I had to describe my painting," says Paola, “I would say that it doesn't stray far from the theater, or at least from my vision of the theater”. She paints the actions that generate a movement, physical or emotional. A painting that represents the outline of thought, a memory, the reverberation of a gesture, a look that points to a goal, that traces a path, a path that tells a story. Characters who let themselves be observed, others who watch. “I love the idea that the theater is revealed in the canvases, that the imagination becomes a character, the painting becomes a scene, the images come to life. "In 2017, Paola Greco returns to Catania and she founds OPEN – a Creative Work Space, where she presents her first solo exhibition in the city of Catania: TRATTI (13 April - 2 June 2019). Paola Greco loves to paint the Man. Persistent explorer of the human adventure, the artist tries to tell this adventure with inexhaustible interest, observation, and above all, with understanding. She doesn’t judge, doesn’t try to give answers. She penetrates through a fissure in the human soul - the eyes - and tries to understand it, interpret it. The natural environment is not her first interest. Natural light is almost absent in her work. Her works reject time and capture thoughts and actions. Paola Greco loves to paint theatrical places. The heroes she represents over the years through her work the writers and the characters of the great plays, for whom she feels a selective affinity. What drives Paola Greco to paint is always the many and different aspects of herself.
