An idea for a canvas overwhelms me, I let it simmer in me for days and rub off its roots, and once ready I move on to creation, a kind of induction, accompanied by my intervention, until the realization of the work.
During the gestation of the canvas, each "slice" of the production process is an arbitration between colors, shape, orientation, surface and volume, which the movements of my sensitivity inspire and which the brush arranges and slices.
The work is therefore built in successive stages, numerous, more or less tedious, more or less slow, mixing at the same time spontaneity, requirement, and alertness of the senses.
Constant returns are more or less necessary, with the intention of enriching the work, of perfecting it.
The canvas is for me this labyrinth in which I explore myself, I reveal myself and I adhere to myself. Isn't all art the expression of what is brewing in us, that only artistic practice brings out?
Stop painting? Might as well die right away.
.
My painting is an interpretation of the tragedy of existence.
It is a plastic interpretation that gives strength to the passions of my creatures inhabited by fear, jealousy, cruelty, madness, stubbornness, distress, anger, even intense inner violence.
This invites the viewer to mobilize a wide range of emotions to decipher underlying secrets that only a heightened sensitivity allows.
My artistic work is, in a sense, an amplifier of what is going on in the minds of men and women with an experience, an indelible suffering hidden from the perception of an inattentive, indifferent eye. Sustained attention is an unavoidable necessity for me.
Armed with my sharp scalpel-brushes, to carry out a “psychic surgery” of the characters, thereby attempting to reveal the various aspects of their backgrounds, their experiences.
Maryse Coin is a contemporary French painter, born in 1957 in Niort. Although she initially pursued other paths, it wasn't until the age of 30 that Coin discovered her passion for painting. Self-taught, she embarked on her artistic journey by studying and emulating the techniques of the great masters.
Inspired by her travels to Morocco, Coin's early works primarily consisted of portraits and life scenes, capturing the essence of her experiences in vivid detail. However, in 2003, she underwent a transformative period, producing around forty abstract paintings characterized by a spontaneous, gestural style and a dominant use of red. For Coin, this phase represented a source of freedom, therapy, and creative exploration.
As the years progressed, Coin's artistic evolution led her towards a new realm of expression, marked by a departure from academic figurative art towards more suggestive and abstract portraits. Embracing pure creation, Coin developed a highly personal style that aligns with the expressionist movement, conveying raw emotion and depth through her compositions. Recognized for her substantial impact on the art scene, Coin was granted membership in the esteemed Taylor Foundation in 2021.
