Car enthusiasts will agree that some vehicles are more than the sum of their parts; they're works of art that represent some of the world's most inventive minds. Millions of people appreciate famous designs like the Jaguar E-Type, Lamborghini Countach, and Porsche 911, and the 911 in particular has sparked an art vehicle frenzy that is still going strong today. We've seen some incredible modern renditions of the Porsche art car, and the most recent examples, which use the Porsche Taycan as a canvas, are simply incredible. Porsche Canada recently collaborated with Art Battle to hold a time-limited knock-out competition to determine regional and national champions throughout the world, pitting artists against each other in front of a live audience. This was the outcome.

The event, dubbed "The Art of Electric," was the first of its type and using actual automobiles as the canvas. To accommodate each artist's chosen mediums, the two Taycan 4S vehicles were wrapped in white and black. Rei Misiri, a Toronto-based calligraphy artist who specialized in murals, adorned the black automobile. Megan Claire Keho, a Toronto artist who specializes in huge, bright wall murals, received the white automobile. "Most of my art is murals and public works influenced by many people in my life," explains Keho. "I tend to empathize with people who struggle for the rights of others, and I want to build public spaces where critical discussions can take place."

Each artist had only two hours to produce their work, and both live and virtual audiences were encouraged to vote for their favorite piece. Misiri, who used the black automobile, produced a magnificent gold and white piece with wild horse images that he said was inspired by "various civilizations and aesthetic elements from nature." Keho, on the other hand, dazzled the audience with a brilliant display of color. The crowd voted in favor of Misiri's creation at the end of the two-hour show. He will now compete in the city final, and if he wins again, he will advance to the National Championships. Before the coverings are removed, the cars will be accessible for media drives and photoshoots. We expect to see a lot more art automobiles in the future, especially since that vinyl makes it so easy to construct pieces like these.
