About the author
Berthold Maier, geb. 1949 in Göppingen, wohnt seit 1995 in Burladingen - Salmendingen. Die Beschäftigung mit Malerei begann bereits in der Schulzeit. Er entschied sich danach aber für eine Ausbildung als Chemotechniker. Einige Jahre spielte er Schlagzeug in verschiedenen Rock - Jazz - Formationen. In dieser Zeit war die Malerei auf wenige Arbeiten wie z. B. Plakatentwürfe und Skizzen beschränkt. Anfang der 80er Jahre begann eine intensive Phase in der er sich auf naturalistische Aquarellmalerei spezialisierte. Mitte der 90er Jahre weitete er das Spektrum seiner Techniken und Motive stark aus. Es entstanden Bilder in Öl, Acryl, Buntstift und weitere Aquarelle, sowohl gegenständliche als auch abstrakte Arbeiten. Diese Bilder sind thematisch schwer einzuordnen. Es handelt sich dabei oft um verschlüsselte Aussagen. Einige könnte man als Traumbilder bezeichnen, andere spielen mit Vergleichen aus verschiedenen Stilen der Moderne, lassen sich aber keiner bestimmten Richtung zuordnen. Manche enthalten auch ironische Aspekte. Berthold Maier ist Autodidakt, hat aber viel von seinem Vater gelernt, einem technisch brillanten Hobbymaler.
