L'artiste coréenne Stella Sujin questionne l'imagerie trop facilement rattachable à l'idée de la féminité, telles que les fleurs, les vulves, les portraits aux lèvres vermeils, qui façonnent une vision hiératique de la femme. Mais afin de parer et distordre ce formalisme trop ancré, Sujin apporte une forme de monstruosité non homogène, fortement inspirée par la notion d’abjection de la philosophe Julia Kristeva qu'elle revendique fortement. L'artiste sublime par une palette ultra dopée toute une iconographie propre, utilisant des images déconcertantes qui poussent le spectateur à réfléchir sur ses propres limites et ses propres réactions.
Depuis une dizaine d’années, son travail est régulièrement exposé en France, mais également à l’étranger dont la Chine, la Norvège, les Etats-Unis ou encore la Grèce.L’artiste a bénéficié de plusieurs résidences tout au long de sa carrière, notamment à la Villa Belleville ou encore à la Résidence d’artistes de la Ville d’Ajaccio. Ses oeuvres sont présentes dans de nombreuses collections dont la collection Zabludowicz à Londres ou encore celle du Musée d’Art de Daejeon en Corée du Sud, où son travail est très régulièrement exposé. Stella Sujin a été nommée au Prix Drawing Now en 2023, où ses oeuvres, très remarquées, ont bénéficié d’une couverture presse remarquable.
