About the author
Elena Guseva (ELEGUS) was born in the city of Severouralsk, Russia, at the foot of the picturesque Ural Mountains, the natural border between Europe and Asia. Her childhood and youth were spent in the central part of Russia, among the wide natural spaces, and her love for the beauty of nature grew with each passing year.
During her childhood and youth, she constantly drew flowers and trees, and she developed her artistic skills at an urban art school for 4 years. She studied painting, sculpture and art history. After graduating, she spent 2 years in the studio of professional artist Victor Vorobiev. In addition to painting, Elena loved literature and she also obtained an education at the College of Culture in library science. Throughout her life, she has changed her residence several times, from central Russia to the northern part, and has also lived on the island of Sakhalin, near Japan. In 2000, she moved to live in Spain, first to Madrid and since 2007 in Valencia. Spain and its culture captivated Elena with its colour, friendliness, culture and vibrant nature. One of the biggest challenges of her life was moving to Spain, adapting, finding her place, friends and the opportunity to dedicate herself to painting again.
In Valencia, she completed courses on "Tourism and Culture" and worked as a tourist guide for more than 10 years. Enthusiastically, she returned to painting as an adult, when the desire arose to express her life experience, new dreams and affections. In 2023, she completed practical texture painting courses at the International School of Modern Creativity (Author Kristina Brilkova, Moscow). Master's Certificate in Creating Textured Interior Paints. Courses included Abstract Landscape, Black and White, Floristics.
The themes of Elena's paintings are inspired by fantasies and delights, music and nature, the elegance of the shape of a flower or the whimsical shape of the branches of a tree. She is attracted to the theme of monochrome colors, the nobility of black and white, its conciseness and contrast. Working in the genre of contemporary textured painting, Elena pays special attention to the volume of the objects on the canvas, to the main idea of the painting and its meaning. At first, she likes to create an expressive chaos of textured paste and then detail it, giving it concrete and recognizable shapes, which relate the illusion to the main meaning of the painting, hidden in the image on canvas.
Elena likes to visit exhibitions, she is inspired and amazed by the works of the French expressionists, the Valencian painter Joaquín Sorolla, the paintings of Velázquez, especially his Meninas, and she likes the modern style of Eduardo Arroyo with its concision and enigmas meaning of his paintings.Currently, Elena lives on the picturesque coast of the Spanish Mediterranean, in beautiful and beloved Valencia. This city has become her permanent love and her welcoming and inspiring second home.
