Sans modèle, c’est par la force de son esprit et de son couteau qu'elle superpose les couleurs brutes, les étirent et les travaillent de façon à faire apparaître reflets, ombres , lumières et transparences. Un détail attire son attention et la voilà transportée dans un monde où la créativité est son maître.
Pour réaliser ses œuvres, Sylvie Vandensteendam compose dans son atelier personnel où meublent pigments, tubes de couleurs, apprêts, médiums, couteaux et pinceaux... La cohabitation est nécessaire avec les châssis de lin ou de coton, posés à même le mur.
L'élément central de cette pièce est bien sûr le chevalet. Il trône au milieu de l'atelier, face à la lumière, en attendant sa prochaine œuvre.
Pour créer, Sylvie Vandensteendam utilise différentes techniques qui lui sont propres, elle aime utiliser des outils variés en fonction du rendu qu'elle souhaite apporter à ses toiles.
Adepte de l'expérimentation, elle fait l'usage de différents couteaux, pinceaux et spatules pour apporter volumes et transparences dans ses œuvres. Sylvie Vandensteendam aime également mélanger les peintures acryliques avec différents médiums, mats et satinés et mélanger les liants aux pigments pour obtenir des nuances riches et profondes.
