Née à Montréal en 1943 d’un père artiste, Claire Hamelin s’intéresse au dessin dès son jeune age et surprend par son habileté. Plus tard plusieurs projets d’artisanat (niveau commercial ) voient le jour dont des arrangements floraux, tissages, rénovations de meubles antiques en y ajoutant des fleurs, des vignes des fruits etc. etc. La réussite ne tarde pas à se manifester.
L’enthousiasme général provoqué par ses créations l’incite à peindre sur toiles. Autodidacte de nature, elle décide donc d’approfondir ses connaissances en étudiant les couleurs, les pigments ainsi que la disposition des œuvres de plusieurs peintres célèbres dont ; Cézanne, Van Gogh, Renoir et Monet.
Afin de parfaire son art, elle suit des cours avec quelques peintres de Montréal en aquarelle, en pastel et à l’huile. Étant fille de la campagne, les paysages et la nature, en général, l’inspire au plus haut point. Elle se partage entre les objets familiers et la nature dans son élément le plus simple.
Au Rendez-Vous estival 2000, elle remporte le premier prix.
Toujours en recherche, elle ne se lasse jamais d’analyser et d’étudier pour parfaire ses connaissances.
