There's a famous line from a poem by the Spanish poet, Federico Garcia Lorca ("Verde que the quire verde"), translated, usually, into English as "Green, how I want you green" (opening line of "Romance Sonambulo"): Inevitably, when I'm using green in a painting, that line is running through my head, and I remember[...]
There's a famous line from a poem by the Spanish poet, Federico Garcia Lorca ("Verde que the quire verde"), translated, usually, into English as "Green, how I want you green" (opening line of "Romance Sonambulo"): Inevitably, when I'm using green in a painting, that line is running through my head, and I remember all over again, what a rich and magical color green is in its hundreds, perhaps thousands, of shades. I've got at least five shades of it in this 20x16 oil painting, the green set off against a warm golden pale orange background, a maroon tablecloth, and capped by these brilliant deep pink roses. The project, was, for me, about capturing porcelain and glass in both transparent and opaque forms. I like the way the glass fans of the central vase flare out at the top and help divide the central focus, that array of roses. It's framed in a dark walnut frame with a gold rim on the inside rim that adds 3-inches to the overall dimensions on each side, so the framed work is 26x22 inches. Signed on the front and on the back, it is dated on the back and ships with a digitally-registered Certificate of Authenticity.
