Maria Teresa was born in Santiago, Chile in 1958, to parents of Italian heritage.

From early childhood, she displayed a passion for artistic expression, and began to display her work as a serious artist at an early age, winning an award with honours at the 2nd Biennal of the University of Art a the Museum of Fine Arts in Santiago in 1981, for her skill in the use of the classic engraver's tool known as the burin.

In 1984, at the age of twenty-six, she received her degree in art from the Catholic University of Chile, specialising in sculpture.

Maria Teresa's first-hand experiences and training in the world of Italian art came in 1989, when she won a scholarship from the Chilean Italian Institute of Culture for a one year programme of study at the Fine Arts Academy of Brera, in Milan, to specialise in etching and serigraphy.

During a period of studying, travelling and creative work around this time, she arrived in Venice, which she eventually decided to make her home.

After studying the art of drawing in charcoal, and being instructed in watercolour painting by the wellknown Venetian watercolourist Alberto Balestra, she became one of a small group of professional artists authorised by the Comune di Venezia to sell their work in Venice' public spaces.

She can often be found, on days of good weather, attending her open-air galleria in Venice's Campo Geremia, gaining new admirers and patrons of her charcoals, pastels, etchings and watercolours from the flow of visitors through this public square near the Sta. Lucia train station.
