The little houses and church on top of the cliff, with the lights in the windows, portrays how in olden days sailors, fishermen and smugglers too, would be guided a safe return home from the treacherous seas around the coast, by the wives and widows of the the Dorset villages living on cliff top villages.

I was inspired to create this series of oil paintings by the wonderful 'cragginess' of the Jurassic coastline close to where I live in Dorset and where I find the inspiration for my Seascapes and also by the intriguing and true historical story above. Painted in oils and mixed media for the cliffs on deep sided box canvas. The sides are painted and it is ready to hang without the need of a frame.

Elizabeth Williams is a contemporary British painter based in Spain. After training at the City Lit in Holborn, London for a Fine Art degree, she paints in oils focusing on the on the sea and landscapes. Williams creates abstract expressionist/romantic impressionist oil paintings which reflect the elemental tone of the natural world. By the use of carefree brushstrokes or the palette knife Elizabeth's paintings are inspired by capturing clouds that hug you, rocks on a shore, or a crashing wave from a distant view point or rolling towards a shore line. She paints the weather, sea, light and wind with texture and energy.

Her work is richly textured in parts, combined with smooth blended glazes of brushwork, to suggest depth and movement. Striving to allow the paint to 'have a mind of its own' works well with her looser style, that the confines of realism can oppose, allowing her atmospheric and emotional pieces to come alive. Williams's work is mostly of seascape landscapes combined encompassing the weather in all seasons. Her paintings can vary specifically for commissioned works in large or small spaces and has been sold over the years both internationally and at home in Spain to clients and collectors of her work.
