Clemens Briels was born in 1946 in The Netherlands. He began his artistic career around 1990, after working as a graphic designer, art director, and illustrator, and finally as a creative director. At the age of forty-six, he chose to follow his true calling and become a full-time artist.
Supported by a growing team that handles administrative duties, Clemens has been able to focus on his creative endeavors. He has achieved international success with his distinctive art style, which he describes as Antipodism—a blend of bold, colorful imagery with Latin American influences and a disregard for traditional perspective.
Briels’ work spans several disciplines, including sculpture, painting, glass art, and furniture design. His art is known for its cheerful and optimistic outlook on life. Clemens has held successful exhibitions across Europe, North America, the Middle East, and had a notable museum exhibition in Shanghai in August 2008. His work has also been commissioned by prestigious multinational companies such as Ford Automotive Group, Philips, ABN Amro, Fortis, Pfizer, Sara Lee, DSM Chemicals, and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines.
