The painter Maria Antonietta Venturi Casadei says of her:
Very sensitive artist, always supported by a sincere inspiration,
he manages to instill in each of his works the classic sense of beauty.
The atmospheres created by the transparencies
are very suggestive and appreciated
of its ceramic lamps in white clay made entirely by hand,
or the incredible lightness of his white plates with perforated rims.
His constant search for ever more complete expressiveness highlights
in each of his works the accuracy and consummate technical mastery of the ancient
and illustrious traditions of the great Bolognese masters of the late eighteenth century,
and in particular of the Aldrovandi Manufacture, which introduced an extraordinary innovation
using “English style” white earthenware.
The Manufacture of Count Carlo Filippo Aldrovandi (1763-1823),
Bolognese nobleman at the end of the 18th century (Bologna, 1793-94)
has given rise to a manufacture in white earthenware
similar to the English one (Wedgwood).
In Nicoletta Barberini's book* it says:
"In addition to carrying out many experiments
to obtain a white and light paste similar to porcelain,
he invents tools and working methods without sparing expense"
Presentation:
I have always been fascinated by white ceramics and especially the perforated one.
After attending a short pottery course, a lucky encounter
with some original pieces of the "Manifattura Aldrovandi" it gave me the decisive push,
almost suggesting how to recreate them.
So I built the tools and a working method
by hand
(perhaps similar to that of the Aldrovandi Manufacture) to be able to recreate them.
I thank the author of the book, who gave it to me and who lent me some pieces.
With them I was able to find the drawings of some fretwork models that I used for my products.
Other drawings come from exhibitions at the Davia Bargellini Museum in Bologna.
My pieces don't want to be "copies" of the ancient Aldrovandi Manufacture
(only my surname is, by pure chance or for some design)
but only a way to revive the extraordinary artistic ability and inventiveness,
combined with great manual ability, which the Bolognese craftsmen had at the end of the 18th century.
In particular, the Aldrovandi Manufacture, with Count Carlo Filippo,
has introduced an extraordinary innovation using all-white earthenware...
