We are all connected – humans to nature and the other way around. What one does can profoundly affect the other, for better or worse, as we are now witnessing. A zoonotic disease has ground the human world to a standstill, and likewise, humans have great capacity – and indeed often drive – to create havoc and harm in the natural world.

Jorge Calero is a contemporary Colombian-Portuguese painter. He paints natural, wild landscapes in a most expressive and optimistically manner, driving the attention to our most intimate relationship with the living mother earth, unveiling the unseen forces and events happening at every moment in the landscape.

Expressionist in his intention, the artist amplifies chromatically and liberates formally to emphasize the presence of light and motion so the images seem to be in the process of forming or becoming something else. Color is the vehicle through which light materializes or suggest unseen details, most of them subtle like bubbles, spores or flying insects describing their orbits around, water currents lovely looking frogs, every detail is plenty of movement making nature a whole entity dancing a spectacular choreography and there is an aura of compassion and sweet contemplation which support a contemporary vision of concern towards the environment.

Jorge Calero was born in 1960, in Colombia.
