This painting was a lot of fun. I changed the composition several times until everything started working, at one time I had a lake in the foreground and decided some large evergreens and wildlife would be interesting so I took the lake out. The mountains started out with just the three peaks in front, but it just looked to plain so I added some peaks behind them. I wanted to create a little atmosphere so I added a little fog, kind of makes it look like a bright brisk early morning. The elk was a challenge but fun, on canvas it's about the size of a silver dollar.

I've had people tell me the area looks like Wyoming or Idaho, and someone said it looks like a lot of places he's been hunting elk.
