Édouard Manet (1832-1883) is the first artist to paint only everyday subjects. His fast and confident manner of painting made him the forerunner of Impressionism. On April 15, 1874, the exhibition of an artist group (Degas, Renoirs, Cézanne, Pissaro, Guillaumin, Sisley and Morisot) opens with photographer Nadar. Claude Monet's canvas, Impression du soleil levant (1873) will be used by art critic Louis Leroy in an ironic article, the title of which was "the exhibition of the Impressionists". The movement was born.
The movement is characterized by the execution of outdoor paintings. The painter striving to render light, impressions rather than the precision of details.
