Sylvain Thieurmel
International artist, painter, visual artist, sculptor, luthier and cello musician, born in 1962 in Caen, Sylvain Thieurmel is at the maturity of his Art, or rather should we say 'his'. Arts, both expression of his talent s' expresses in many areas of artistic creation. He entered the university at the age of 16; Caen National School of Fine Arts, works there on painting, sculpture and engraving. At the same time, he will devote himself to learning violin making and restoration and becoming an expert luthier at the age of 25. Royal Opera in Stockholm and at the age of 33 at the Grand Théâtre du Liceu in Barcelona.
Recognized at a very young age, he was supported in 1985 by Jack Lang, Minister of Culture, to submit to the Royal Opera in Stockholm. La mentonnière du violon devient la table du Maître, taillée dans un sandwich de lamellés de 32 feuilles de placage de bouleau de Finlande flammé et de bois d' amarante massif, les arabesques obtenues en creusant sa forme concave montrent par ses stries l' accroissement d' une huître...le pied est un détail de la taille d' un chevalet de violoncelle, la forme du plateau évoque une langue , une cuillère, un semelle de chaussure italienne...
L' archet est taillé dans un bloc d' amarante, se déploie comme un serpent. Les crins deviennent des fils de lumière tendue.

Sylvain THIEURMEL
Né à Caen en 1962, Sylvain Thieurmel est à la maturité de son Art, ou plutôt devrait-on dire de “ses” Arts, tant l’expression de son talent s’exprime dans de nombreux domaines de la création artistique.
Musicien, peintre, sculpteur, son oeuvre se poursuit et ses passions s’entremêlent imprégnées de lumière, de couleur, de son et d’émotion.
Musicien, entré à huit ans, au Conservatoire National de Musique, premier prix de violoncelle à dix-huit ans, il se consacrera ensuite, pendant cinq ans, à l’apprentissage de la lutherie et de la restauration d’instruments à cordes. Ainsi, outre son talent d’interprète, devient-il spécialiste instrumental jusqu’à être, à 25 ans, luthier expert de l’Opéra Royal de Stockholm.
Reconnu très jeune, il sera soutenu à vingt-deux ans par le Ministère de la Culture (Jack Lang) et par la Délégation aux Arts Plastiques. L’INPI et l’ANVAR lui permettront de breveter un nouveau système sonore de son invention. Musique et peinture, peinture et musique ses deux espaces créatifs.
De même se fera-t-il remarquer par l’élaboration d’un nouveau médium de peinture estimé identique à celui utilisé par Van Eyck ou Velázquez. Sylvain Thieurmel aura tour à tour des ateliers en Lorraine, à Paris, à Stockholm, en Normandie, à Barcelone et aujourd’hui à Montpellier.
Il rencontrera et travaillera en collaboration avec de nombreuses personnalités, artistes ou plasticiens tels Kelleck et Nicollet, le peintre vénitien Augusto Pavanel, l’illustratrice suisse Jocelyne Pache, le professeur Philippe Borderieux, le Directeur des Beaux-Arts Pierre Lebigre, le sculpteur César, le producteur Javier Verdes, le photographe François Gillet (il réalisera lui même plusieurs milliers de photos).
Ses recherches dans des domaines aussi différents que le dépassement du classicisme dans le modernisme ou les techniques vénitiennes des natures mortes lui procurent un spectre créatif large et diversifié. Le pinceau de Sylvain Thieurmel, son trait, sa matière, sa couleur font vibrer ses toiles, du moderato au forte, comme l’archet sur son violoncelle.

En parallèle, il entre à 16 ans à l’Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts, et y travaille la Peinture, la Sculpture et la Gravure.
Si la peinture devient son expression majeure, il reste sculpteur et s’intéresse à toutes les formes d’art plastique et pictural. Il ira jusqu’à étudier la gémologie à Madagascar et la taille des pierres précieuses au Sri Lanka pour mieux comprendre le vitrail et en intégrer ses effets dans sa peinture.
Son travail bénéficie de ce foisonnement multidirectionnel, poly-artistique et multiculturel qui le caractérise.
Classique dans sa formation, moderne dans sa composition, son oeuvre post-moderne, qui va de la nature morte à l’abstraction, suit une ligne directrice, devenue sa « marque » : le violoncelle, présent presque toujours sur ses toiles, ajoutant une musicalité subliminale à l’impression visuelle.
Son ouverture sur le monde le fait reconnaître au plan international, il expose au salon de Francfort, à Stockholm, à Barcelone, à Munich, à New-York, mais aussi à Paris (Grand Palais, Beaubourg). Il voyage en Afrique, Asie, Amérique. Après un séjour prolongé à Malalapuram (ville de la taille du granite pour les Bouddhas) il réalise une sculpture monumentale de vingt mètres destinée à l’entrée du nouvel Opéra de Dubaï.
De nombreux articles ou émissions lui sont consacrés, journaux, radios (France Culture notamment), télévisions comme en Espagne (TV3, 20h de TV2), en Suède ou en France (FR3).
