The royal gaze of the desert.
David's interest in the greater world of the Arts began at an early age. He achieved distinction in painting, drawing and graphical design, also excelling in music playing cello, double bass, music theory and acting.
For his Graphical Design ability, David was honored being selected for an apprenticeship with the Wellington based company Spencer Holmes, where he trained as a structural CAD draftsman and Civil Engineer, graduating with NZCE Civil and a New Zealand Diploma in Engineering 1997.
The sparing application of creativity in the engineering world eventually became to much however,
so with safe qualifications secured David again focused on his passion for painting, building his career as a freelance artist up painting stage sets and backdrops for live performers, air brushing fantasy wall murals of all sizes, and the intricate work of custom vehicle air brushing. David also painted many commissioned works, often of WW2 aircraft, and exhibited his water colour paintings throughout New Zealand.
For better artistic immersion David then moved to the Netherlands, where he found great inspiration in the depth of history and culture, reflecting in his works and leading to fast career growth including fine art publishing.
David also markets his works internationally via the Internet with much success, and has established a steady market airbrushing children’s fantasy murals
"Inspiration for my paintings comes from the strong sense of spiritual freedom I get from escaping through the canvas into a world of my choosing. I feel the breath of life as the colours unfold into the work creating my favorite environments, and I have an increasing surrealistic thirst.
I feel particularly at home in the dry dusty colours of the African plains, and have an almost romantic attraction to the camouflage skinned animals."
David's paintings are a mix of acrylics and watercolour, while his airbrushing utilises industrial car paints in addition. He paints extensively on canvases and paper, and to a lesser extent on steel and wood for vehicle custom paint work. Sizes range from intricate to massive, and he has done commissions of all sorts.
