For workshop paintings that bear evidence of master craftsmanship, this attribution must be further qualified. Original Ölgemälde “Cultura sommersa – Begrabene Kultur”.

Sommersa ist italienisch und heißt wortwörtlich “unter Wasser”. Di Bella hat diesen Titel im übertragenen Sinn gewählt für so viel wie “begraben”, “verschüttet”, “ertrunken”. Cultura, auf deutsch Kultur, steht als Oberbegriff auch für Kunst.

Eine nach oben gestreckte Hand – ähnlich der Hand eines Ertrinkenden, schemenhaft ist in der Handfläche ein Gesicht (sein Gesicht?) erkennbar. Da das Bild ist in Gelb-, Goldgelb- und Brauntöne gehalten ist, assoziiert es durch diese Farben einerseits Licht, Heiterkeit und Freude (gelb wie die Sonne), andererseits Natürlichkeit, Sicherheit, Geborgenheit (braun wie Mutter Erde). Die Farbnuancen spiegeln demnach das große Spektrum von Weisheit, Vernunft und Logik (gelb) über Pessimismus, Egoismus, Neid und Täuschung (unreine Gelbtöne) bis hin zu Sicherheit, Stabilität, Geborgenheit, Unverwüstlichkeit (braun) wider. Auch weil das Bild auf erstem Blick eher goldbraun scheint, was wiederum als Farbe des Handels und der Wirtschaft bezeichnet wird, charakterisiert es Di Bellas damals “neue Heimat”, Frankfurt am Main, und seine dortigen Erlebnisse, die gemachten Erfahrungen und die Hoffnung: Entweder schaffe ich es oder ich gehe hier unter …
