« My name is Fern, & this is my rescue pigeon, Mr Magoo ('Goo for short). He self-rescued by crashing into my glass sliding balcony door when I lived in a unit in Surfers Paradise QLD Australia. When I saw it happen, I took him inside to make sure he was OK & soon realised he was blind, so I decided to keep him. In addition to his blindness, he also has some neurological issues, resulting in head drift, walking in circles, & stargazing. He's seen a vet & been cleared for PMV, but the vet suspects something may have occurred while he was in his egg which makes sense, because he was certainly quite young when I found him.

Despite his blindness, he's capable of eating on his own, although he still requires my help to drink water sometimes - I ask him if he wants a drink of water, & if he puts his head down, I tap on his glass of water with my fingernail & he dips his head to drink out of it. He's a needy boy who loves human company, & regularly complains till I get him out, just so he can sit on my shoulder & preen himself. He also loves plush toys & jingle balls, sleeping in his cat tower, & dancing - he's an excellent dancer!

'Goo is one of 6 rescue pigeons I have, & he hasn't really bonded with the others much - his blindness confuses them & they're not quite sure what to make of him. As a result, he relies on me & my mum for company, which we don't mind at all, as he's such a sweet boy & is excellent company. »
