Gringo arrived with a heavy smell of infection, the wound on his wing was ugly.
We immediately started with antibiotics and painkillers, and went to see our vet the next day.
From the x-rays, it became clear that he had been shot.
And it wasn’t his first time. He has an old leg fracture and a small pellet still inside his ankle.
Apparently there lives a sick person where Gringo lived, having fun shooting at pigeons.
Our lovely vet Marta🤍 decided not to amputate the wing right away but to continue with heavy antibiotics to see if we could beat the infection.
Within ten days, the fishy smell disappeared and the wounded part of the wing started to dry. Half of the wing was slowly starting to fall off.
Around day 20, it fell. 😔🪶
He still risks an operation to clean up the area where the a bone protrudes.
From the moment he arrived he never once lost his dignity despite the agonizing pain and loss he suffered keeping his head up and eyes piercing through us almost trying to teach an important lesson with his humble acceptance of a new reality…
He’s acted as if he’s lived in here with us all his life, at times making us feel like visitors him being the owner.
Nowadays, he is discovering new things about living with us. He must be feeling good though as he started calling for a female already.
He doesn’t know it but we may have a small surprise for him soon. »

Elodie M. Richard was born in France but with a complex heritage including Polish and Russian. Due to her father’s career in the Army her family had to regularly move and adapt to new locations in France and abroad. Her life path as a child and adult is made of travels and regular changes of geographical locations, constantly balancing between feeling of loss, challenges and new life starts.
Unlike a superficial society that gets lost in ultra consumption, Elodie creates a refined, symbolic and meditative world around the broad notion of identity. She takes her inspirations from personal experiences but also current events and her connection to nature.
The artist currently lives in Central Florida with her husband (artist himself) and their small flock of 5 rescued pigeons.
This page shows an inventory of her work as a painter and illustrator since 2016 up to this current year.
Some of her artworks appear as sold, if interested in an art piece, please private message Elodie.
