Ellen was born in Rotterdam where she also studied at the Academy of Arts, Willem de Kooning.
Nowadays she lives in the beautiful region 'Het Gooi', near Amsterdam.
Ellens paintings are modern figurative, very colorful and divided in two categories; multicolors and terracolors.
The frescoes, pastels and stones belong to the last-mentioned category.
She loves to express herself in the warm and tranquil radiation of earth colors, but she is also strongly attracted to vivid and bright colors.
Mostly she works with a rough sketch that she has in mind and during painting she is guided by spontaneous inspiration.
Her intention is to find the right composition between form and color.
The materials she uses are; pastel, charcoal, and acrylic paint.
In order to create relief and structure she applies combined techniques.
Her tools are; brush, sponge, palette knife and her hands.
