The painting 'eMotion. Pain' is the first of twelve paintings of the series. It depicts a girl with muscles stretched like strings. She is trying to escape from the state of pain. The painting 'eMotion. Pain' is the first of twelve paintings of the series. It depicts a girl with muscles stretched like strings. She is trying to escape from the state of pain. She has nothing to lean on, nothing to grab onto. Her legs sprawl and she nearly falls exhausted. This painting is about how physical and moral pain can run us down, destroy us.

Pain suppresses, pain unbalances, pain makes us do stupid things. We come into the world through the pain of birth and leave it in pain. Can you live without pain? Is it possible to experience all the sensuality of life without experiencing pain? How to cope with severe pain that is exhausting?

I experimented while painting "Pain". In the bottom layer, I used sawdust and glue. This helped me to create an unusual texture. The surface gave the effect of a mural on the canvas. Therefore, the image is a little ghostly. I managed to convey my impression of pain as a feeling that does not allow me to think soberly. It was an experiment that worked. The texture of the canvas is unique and can't be reproduced. I intended to say that the pain ends eventually. Sooner or later.

'eMotions. Pain', oil on linen canvas, sawdust, 120x80 cm, 2017.
The painting was presented at Itsliquid International Art Fair in Venice, Italy in 2021.

Eleonora Taranova was born in a small Ukrainian town in 1971. As a child, she lived in a village house with animals and observed their behavior. She learned to portray the emotions and movements of pets on her own since there was no art school in the town.

After working as a teacher at a higher school for over 20 years, she quit her job for health reasons and took up painting as a hobby. Now she is working as a full-time artist in animalistic and figurative genres for the last 13 years.

Eleonora draws inspiration from the rock carvings' simplicity and expressiveness, the emotionality of the works of Rembrandt and Vrubel, the human form depiction of Francis Bacon, and bright colored works of Franz Mark. Her latest discovery is the works of Danish artist Oluf Hartmann, in which she finds answers to her questions.

Fleeing the war, Eleonora appeared in Denmark where she is based now. The artist researches emotions with the aim of opposing and finding common ground between human and animal psychology. She awakens empathy and pays tribute to animals that fill our lives with devotion and love, and inspire us with their natural beauty. The artist speaks for those who cannot speak for themselves.
