In the series of paintings "Heaven and Hell" through the images of legs, the artist rethinks the ancient symbolism of movement, choice, passion and peace. Each work is the embodiment of heaven or hell, it is a moment between grace and suffering.
Heaven is embodied in the purity of lines, lightness of touch, in light shades and harmony. These are legs that stand on the threshold of peace, in weightlessness, as if hovering above the ground. They do not press - they lead. This is the path that you step on without fear.
Hell is heavy, full of tension, distorted relief and flaming shades. These are steps on coals, clinging to the past. Here, every vein and fold speaks of pain, choice, internal conflict.
The central element - the legs - is devoid of the usual eroticism or banality. It is a symbol of the path, its beginning or end, how we go, where - and why. The inscriptions and titles of the paintings in Latin emphasize the philosophical subtext - "Aut viam inveniam aut faciam" - "Either I will find the way, or I will create it."

Ekaterina Reshetnyak, who works under the pseudonym Ekaterina Hugg, was born and raised in Donbas.
The artist’s life has been marked by two wars and constant displacement. Yet each time she returned home, she found the strength and inspiration to pick up her brushes and return to the canvas.
The emotional impact of these events left a mark not only on her personality but also on many of her works.
Some of her paintings are light, unusual, and mesmerizing. They seem like the embodiment of a dream on canvas — inviting the viewer to dream and, if only for a moment, escape into that world. These works reflect an inner, inexhaustible source of strength and life.
Others portray suffering, loss, and death — a reflection of the darker side of the artist’s soul, shaped by the many trials she has endured.
