This one of four paintings that I made, part of a small group called "Abstract Pussycats". All four of these paintings are small, bright and abstract. All of them have a simple line drawing over top of the abstract painting, an illustration of a kitty cat. Their expressions say to me that they are perhaps distrustful, looking to the side. Will someone give me food? Is this person a friend or an enemy? I loved creating these! Some of these paintings found their way where I intended them to go, while others were actually stolen. Two of them were hanging on a wall, displayed in one of my hangouts in Everett, Washington. One evening I went there for an open mic night and a hamburger to discover that my paintings had been snatched. Stolen! Luckily the third painting that I had on the wall there, "Eight Soulmates", was (I think) just too big to take without notice. Strange as it might seem, I was actually quite flattered.

Oberlin has always been an artist, developing a love for fountain pens at an early age and deciding to train both hands to draw. They had heard adults talk about a spooky thing called ‘arthritis’. The artist is now ambidextrous.

Oberlin began having seizures and was diagnosed with epilepsy during their freshman year of college. Art helped tremendously.

Some of Oberlin’s paintings come from sketches. Some of the paintings are scenes and shapes that mutate from color. The commonality is expression. The sketches themselves come from dreams and conversations. Some of these ideas have ruminated for months or years. Others happened in a flash.

Any of the art that you see may have since been painted over, traded, donated, given away, eaten, burned, buried or destroyed.
