Dusa Jesih, born on January 16, 1977, in Ljubljana, is a contemporary artist known for her geometric paintings that blend visual aesthetics with intellectual depth. She completed her secondary education at the Secondary School for Design and Photography in Ljubljana in 1996, focusing on graphic design. Jesih then pursued a BA in painting at the College of Visual Arts in Ljubljana, where she also specialized further in painting.
In 2006-2007, Jesih attended advanced courses at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris. Later, she enrolled in the master's program at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana in 2012, where she received the prestigious Preseren Award for students in 2015.
Jesih’s art is renowned for its geometric compositions, often structured in polyptychs, which challenge the viewer to explore beyond the surface. Her work delves into the relationship between form, process, and meaning, using symbolic elements to create a multi-layered narrative. By encouraging viewers to mentally manipulate the elements of her paintings, she fosters a sense of interactivity and engagement.
Her approach is influenced by the Bauhaus philosophy of connecting art with everyday life, as she explores societal structures, historical elements, and the potential for a brighter future through her art. Jesih masterfully balances geometric shapes, contrasting colors, and monochromatic tones to produce visual rhythms that evoke both emotional and intellectual responses.
Dusa Jesih’s body of work is a testament to her ability to transcend aesthetics, bridging the abstract and the tangible, and offering profound reflections on the human experience. She continues to live and work in Ljubljana.
