Dominik Robert Brunner
"It's not about the destination for me, but about the journey."
The young, talented artist Dominik Robert Brunner is an insider tip in the art scene! His works fetch prices of up to €28,000 at auctions. You can be sure that you'll hear and see a lot more from him in the future.
Born in 1990 in Fürth (Bavaria), he grew up in a nearby village in a sheltered home. This environment had a lasting impact on him. When he talks about his childhood and youth, his eyes light up: sitting around a campfire with friends, enjoying the moment without thinking about the future... He associates the memories of this time with the concepts of fun, joy in life, and the feeling of freedom. Nature has been of central importance to him since early childhood: as a place to let off steam, gain strength, and find inspiration.
When asked how he got into art, a smile appears on his face: "I was actually really bad at art in school." But that changed suddenly in 6th grade. In art, there was a project: "Build your dream house." Dominik Robert was so enthusiastic about the project that he devoted himself to many hours of detailed work and "built" a house, his dream house. A house with several floors. And while he was building it, he felt: "This is mine." From 7th grade onwards, his dream job was to become a technical draftsman: creating something on paper, accurately and, if possible, three-dimensionally – this idea fascinated him.
Although Dominik Robert Brunner would have liked to become a chef, he decided to train as a wholesale and retail merchant. Initially, he worked for a company that manufactured furnishings for large corporations. He also worked part-time in a nursery, which he transferred to after his training. He enjoyed decorating interiors with plants. During this time, Dominik Robert was 17 at the time. His then best friend gave him a set of oil paints. Dominik Robert began painting – "extremely abstractly," as he calls it.
Dominik Robert switched careers to a furniture store. There, he soon assumed management responsibility. There, he could only be somewhat creative. He found balance in growing vegetables and herbs, and cooking.
The death of his grandfather in April 2016 was a life-changing experience for Dominik. He fell into a deep hole and stopped letting anyone close to him. At the same time, he realized he needed something to help him cope. While at the hardware store with his father, he decided to buy spray cans and sprayed his first comic. He enjoyed this so much that he began painting with acrylic paints on canvas. At first, he painted small pieces for himself and friends. Later, he painted a large picture, which now adorns his dining room. It depicts a happy dog, buoyantly going about his business. It is Dominik's favorite picture. Dominik Robert began to experiment. Looking back, he says he had never felt as free and happy as he did during this time, full of energy. Eventually, he discovered abstract painting.
Dominik Robert is still deeply inspired by his grandfather. He often remembers the times they spent together and the things that were important to his grandfather. He taught him values. Dominik Robert also appreciated that he always openly expressed his thoughts and feelings and followed his own path.
Nature also inspires Dominik. He consciously observes it, paying attention to small details, to the colors. He loves spring most of all, when everything in nature begins to bloom, the birds chirp, the sun's rays warm him, and the play of shadows fascinates him.
Music also inspires him. Each of his paintings is influenced by music... from classical music to hip-hop... every musical genre leaves its mark on the canvas.
Dominik Robert enjoys experimenting: his works are characterized by a variety of techniques and materials: He paints on canvas, paper, and wood – using acrylic, ink, oil, chalk, pastels, and chlorine. He uses sand, plaster, concrete, clay, and rock flour. Next, he plans to experiment with metal.
Each of his paintings tells the story of a specific situation in his life. Dominik Robert wants to express his own emotions through his paintings. At the same time, his goal is to bring joy to the viewer. He wants to put them into a trance and help them forget difficult everyday situations or deal with them more easily. That's why he sets extremely high standards for himself.
Look forward to many fascinating paintings by this extraordinary artist.
